→ In this chapter, we learnt the procedures to perform decimal multiplication and division.
→ For decimal multiplication, multiply the two numbers obtained by removing the decimal points. Count the total number of decimal digits in both the muhiplier and the multiplicand. Place the decimal point in the product so that it has that many decimal places.
→ When two fractions are multiplied, the product is not always greater than or equal to both numbers.
→ Fractions whose denominators are 2, 4, 5 or 8 can be easily converted into terminating decimals because these numbers are factors of 10(2 × 5) or powers of 2 and 5.
→ Division of decimals uses the same procedure, i.e., division using place value (long division), as with counting numbers. The regrouping continues after the Ones place to Tenths, Hundredths, Thousandths, and so on, When the Ones are regrouped to Tenths, a decimal point is placed in the quotient.
→ When the divisor is a decimal, convert it into a countingnumber by multiplying it by 10, 100,1000 and so on.
→ 142857 is the repeating block of the decimal expansion of \(\frac{1}{7}\)
\(\frac{1}{7}=0 . \overline{142857}\)
→ Leap year=366 days.
