Hema and Shyam finally learnt how kheer is made.

This is the recipe.
रेसिपी इस प्रकार है :
Ingredients :
- 1 litre milk
- 1/4 cup rice (washed and soaked)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 4-5 cardamom pods (crushed)
- 10-12 almonds (sliced)
- 10-12 cashews (chopped)
- 8-10 raisins
- A pinch of saffron (optional) and 1-2 tablespoons ghee (optional)
STEPS :
Boil the Milk : Pour the milk into a pan and boil it on medium heat. Stir sometimes so it doesn’t stick.
Add the Rice : When the milk boils, add the soaked rice. Stir it to mix well.
Cook the Rice : Let the rice cook in the milk on low heat. Stir sometimes. It will take around 20-25 minutes. The milk will get thick and the rice will get soft.
Add Sugar and Cardamoms : When the rice is cooked, add sugar and crushed cardamom. Stir until the sugar melts.
Add Nuts and Saffron (Optional) : If you want, heat some ghee in a small pan and roast almonds, cashews, and raisins. Add them to the kheer. You can also add saffron for colour.
Simmer and Serve : Let the kheer cook for 5-10 more minutes. Turn off the heat and serve warm or cold.

“दीदी को हरा धनिया बहुत पसंद है। वह हमसे हमेशा कहती हैं कि हरे धनिए को फेंका मत करो,” हेमा ने कहा।
“अच्छा विचार है।” श्याम ने हरे धनिए की पत्तियों को साफ करते हुए और इनको खीर में डालते हुए कहा।
“दीदी को नींबू भी बहुत पसंद है। वह नींबू के पेड़ की देखभाल ठीक वैसे ही करती हैं जैसे कि वह हमारी देखभाल करती हैं,” श्याम ने जोर देते हुए कहा।
“क्या तुम्हें पक्का पता है कि खीर में नींबू डाला जा सकता है?” हेमा ने पूछा।
“मैंने एक बार दीदी को दूध में नींबू डालते हुए देखा था। इसमें अच्छी गंध आ रही थी।” श्याम ने आत्मविश्वास से कहा।
हेमा ने उबलती खीर में एक पूरा नींबू निचोड़ दिया। धीरे-धीरे खीर में परिवर्तन आना आरंभ हो गया, यह डलेदार और पीली हो गई।

हिन्दी अनुवाद – इस समय तक दीदी जग चुकी थीं। वह रसोईघर में गईं और हाँफने लर्गी।
“आप दोनों क्या कर रहे हैं?” उसने पात्र को घूरते हुए पूछा।
“आश्चर्य! हैपी बर्थडे, दीदी !” हेमा और श्याम ने खीर की तरफ इशारा करते हुए चिल्लाकर बोला।
दीदी ने पात्र को ध्यान से देखा। खीर का पानी पीला था, चावल कच्चे थे और हरे धनिए की पत्तियाँ तैर रही थीं। वह भावावेश में हँसने लगीं।
उन्होंने एक साथ बर्तन भर स्वादिष्ट खीर बनाई थी। जब वे खाने लगे तो दीदी मुस्कुराईं और कहा, “इस आश्चर्य में जो श्रेष्ठतम उपहार आप दोनों ने दिया है वह आप दोनों का प्यार है। थेंक्यू, हेमा और श्याम।”
