Pride City, 2 July, 20XX, Two goldsmith tricksters tricked the Emperor of Pride City Kingdom in the name of Magical Crown. “If a viewer is unable to view the magical crown, he/she is foolish,” said’ the goldsmith tricksters. None wanted to look foolish so the truth remained hidden. But a boy, having no fear, revealed the truth. The realization made the emperor embarrassed. It made the emperor wiser.

Have you ever seen an advertisement that made you want something you didn’t really need? Advertisements are clever, just like the goldsmiths who fooled the emperor. They show us things in a way that makes us believe we must have them. For example, a shampoo ad might show someone with shiny, perfect hair and say, “Use this, and your hair will look just like this!” But is that true? Not always! The models in the advertisement may have used special lighting or editing to make their hair look better.
Or think about a toy ad. It might show a toy robot that can do amazing tricks. But when you buy it, it doesn’t work the same way.
Even food ads can trick us. The burger in an ad looks big and flavoured, but when you buy it, it’s much smaller.
Advertisements play with our dreams and make us think we need things to be happy. But like the emperor, we must think carefully and not let ourselves be fooled.

After a few days, the emperor became curious. He sent his minister to check on the progress. The minister entered the workshop and saw… nothing. The same thing happened when other officials visited the workshop. None of them could see the crown, but all of them praised it, afraid to be called foolish.

हिन्दी अनुवाद – सम्राट की आँखें चमकने लगीं। “एक जादुई मुकुट एकदम सही। इसके द्वारा, मैं अपने राज्य में कौन बुद्धिमान है और कौन नहीं है, इसे बता सकता हूँ,” उसने सोचा। बिना किसी हिचकिचाहट के, उसने सुनारों को लकड़ी की पेटी में भरा हुआ सोना दे दिया और सुनारों को काम शुरू करने का आदेश दिया।
सुनारों ने राजा के महल में एक कार्यशाला स्थापित कर ली। दिन-रात वे हवा में हथोड़ी चलाने और बुनाई करने के कार्य का बहाना करने लगे। यद्यपि उनके हाथों में कोई औजार नहीं था। उन्होंने यह दावा करते हुए कि उन्हें जादुई मुकुट के लिए बारीक से बारीक चीजों की आवश्यकता है। इसलिए उन्होंने और अधिक स्वर्ण व रत्नों की माँग की। सम्राट जो कि उस मुकुट के लिए उत्सुक था। अतः उसने सुनारों को वो सब चीजें दे दीं जिनकी उन्होंने मांग की थी।
कुछ दिनों के उपरांत, सम्राट को जिज्ञासा हुई। सम्राट ने कार्य की प्रगति जानने के लिए अपने मंत्री को भेजा। मंत्री ने कार्यशाला में प्रवेश किया किंतु उसे कुछ दिखाई नहीं दिया अर्थात् मुकुट दिखाई नहीं दिया। किन्तु मंत्री में इस खात को स्वीकार करने का साहस नहीं हुआ। “यदि मैं यह कहूँ कि मुझे मुकुट दिखाई नहीं दे रहा है तो वे मुझे मूर्ख समझेंगे और मैं मंत्री पद के लिए अनुपयुक्त समझा जाऊँगा”, उसने सोचा। अतः वह मुस्कुराया और बोला, “कितना सुंदर मुकुट है ! वास्तव में जादुई है !”
जब अन्य अधिकारीगणों ने उस कार्यशाला का दौरा किया तब भी वही स्थिति उत्पन्न हुई। उनमें से कोई भी उस मुकुट को नहीं देख सका था, किंतु सभी ने इस डर से उस मुकुट की प्रशंसा की, कहीं वे मूर्ख नहीं कहलाए जाने लगें।
अंत में सुनारों ने घोषणा की कि मुकुट तैयार हो गया था। सुनारों ने इस जादुई मुकुट को सम्राट के सिर पर रखने का झूठा नाटक किया। सम्राट को कोई भी चीज़ सिर पर रखा जाना महसूस नहीं हुआ किंतु वह इस सच्चाई को कह नहीं पाया। “यदि मैं इस मुकुट को देख नहीं पा रहा हूँ तो क्या इसका अर्थ यह है कि मैं मूर्ख हूँ?” उसे आश्चर्य हुंआ। अतः वह गर्व से मुस्कुराया और बोला कितना सही फिट है। मैंने जितने भी मुकुट देखे हैं यह उनमें से सर्वाधिक सुंदर मुकुट है।

कठिन शब्दार्थ – decided (डिसाइडिड) = निश्चय किया। show off (शो ऑफ) = दिखावा करना। scared (स्केअड) = डरे होना। truth (ट्रुथ) = सच्चाई । clapped (क्लैप्ट) = तालियाँ बजाई । cheered (चिअड) = प्रशंसा की । splended ( स्प्लेन्डिड ) = भव्य। voice ( वॉइस) = आवाज । rang out ( रैन्ग आउट) = गूँज उठी। embarrassment (इम’बैरसमन्ट) = शर्मिन्दगी। realized (रिअलाइज्ड) = महसूस किया। tricked (ट्रिक्ट) = धोखा दिया।
हिन्दी अनुवाद – सम्राट ने अपने नए मुकुट को अपनी प्रजा को दिखाने का निश्चय किया। वह अपने सिर को ऊँचा रखते हुए गलियों से होकर गुजरा। लोग भी डर के मारे सच नहीं बोल पाए और तालियाँ बजाई तथा प्रशंसा की। यद्यपि लोगों को कोई मुकुट दिखाई नहीं दिया फिर भी उन्होंने बोला, ” कितना भव्य मुकुट है !”
लेकिन अचानक एक छोटे बालक की स्पष्ट और ऊँची आवाज गूँज उठी, “अरे! सम्राट ने तो मुकुट ही नहीं पहना हुआ है।” भीड़ चुप हो गई। फिर एक-एक कर उन्होंने हँसना शुरू कर दिया। सम्राट का चेहरा शर्मिंदगी से लाल हो गया। सम्राट ने महसूस किया कि बालक सही बोल रहा था कि उसके सिर पर कोई मुकुट नहीं था। सुनारों ने उसे धोखा दिया था। उस दिन सम्राट ने एक महत्त्वपूर्ण सबक सीखा। क्या आप अंदाजा लगा सकते हैं कि वह सबक क्या था?
