Read the followings passages and answer the questions given below :

Passage : 1

Bharatpur Park is the bird-watchers delight. It is best known for the Siberian cranes. They arrive in December and stay till March every year.

Questions

1. (i) Which place is the bird watchers delight ?
(ii) What is Bharatpur Park best known for ?

2. (i) In which season do the Siberian cranes come to Bharatpur Park ?
(ii) How long do they stay there ?

Passage : 2

Walking is a good exercise. It is useful for us. It keeps us fit and healthy. Walking brings us in contact with nature which fills us with joy. It is good to walk early in the morning because it makes us active, fresh and happy.

1.(i) Which exercise is good and easy for everybody?
(ii) Why is it good to walk early in the morning ?

2. (i) What brings us in contact with nature ?
(ii) What should we do to keep ourselves active ?

Passage : 3

Washing machines clean clothing by forcing a water and detergent mixture through clothes. The detegrent reacts with the dirt and loosens its grip. Thus, dirt and stains are separated from the clothes. In olden days, people would beat wet clothes against a stone-slab to loosen the dirt. The mechanical system includes the motor, transmission, clutch, inner and outer wash tubs, agitator, pumps, water valve and a bell.

Passage : 4

Birds always attract children. They are of different types, colours and natures. We have the smallest bird—the humming bird and the biggest one ostrich. Our national bird peacock is also a large, beautiful bird. Birds are of various colours. sparrows-grey, white, black; parrots, light green, dappled; pigeons—light grey, white etc. Pigeons, sparrows, parrots etc. are of quiet nature. Hawk, eagle. Kite, vulture, crow etc. are predators.

Once a mother-parrot gave birth two baby-parrots. A hunter bought and brought up one baby-parrot. This baby-parrot learnt the harsh words like catch, hit, kill etc. By chance, the other baby-parrot had been bought and brought up by a holy man. This baby-parrot learnt the honeyed words like welcome, sit, thanks etc.

Passage : 6

Mount Abu is a popular hill station in the Aravalli Range in Sirohi district of Rajasthan. The mountain forms a plateau 22 km long and 9 km wide. The highest peak is Guru Shikhar at 1722 metres above sea level. Its heights are home to rivers, lakes, waterfalls and evergreen forests. The mountain is home to Hindu temples. The Achalgarh fort is nearby.

Passage : 7

Mr. Patel worked in an office in Bikaner, but he lived in a village. He came to work by train everyday. The railway station was not far from his office so he always went there on foot. He reached his office at 10 o’clock; He worked there from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Passage : 8

Once a merchant was riding to the city when a sickly man asked for a lift. The merchant agreed. At the city the man refused to get down saying that the horse was his. They went to the judge. Both of the horses were tied in a stable. The judge asked both of them to look at the horse. The horse did not take any notice of the man but he continued to look into merchant’s eyes affectionately. The judge gave the horse to the merchant.

Passage : 9

Aunt reached the mango grove in no time. It was just as Meenu had said, there was a huge tiger pulling at the white cow’s leg. Filled with rage, aunt rushed at the tiger, raising the pair of coconuts, she rained blow after blow upon its head. The news of the tiger had reached the rice fields. when the men came to help the aunt, they found the tiger dead.

Passage : 10

Ramesh came to stay with his cousin. He stayed with him for two days. Today he is leaving. His bus leaves at 11.15 a.m. His cousin has gone to his office. Ramesh waits for the driver. But the driver does not come till 10 o’clock so Ramesh takes an auto rickshaw and goes to the bus-stand. He meets Kamal at the bus-stand.

Passage : 11

The lion family also came out of their cave. It was a small family the lion, the lioness and their two lovely cubs. The lion climbed on to a rock. He looked around and gave a loud roar. The cubs began to play with each other. The lioness watched them. frolicking for some time then she called them.
