Question 1.

Write the names of parallel and intersecting (RBSESolutions.com) lines in the figures below.

Parallel lines – (i) AB and CD, (iv) MN and ST

Intersecting lines – (ii) XY and WZ (i) PQ and RS

If five lines of different lengths pass through a point, then what are the lines called?

Bisect the line segments of the following (RBSESolutions.com) lengths and write the length of each part.

(i) 8 cm

(ii) 7.6 cm

(iii) 5.8 cm

(iv) 6.4 cm

(i) (A) Given : Line segment AB = 8 cm.

(B) To Draw : Bisector of line segment AB.

(C) To Find : Measurement of each part.

(1) Draw a line segment AB = 8 cm.

(2) Now, open the compass more than (RBSESolutions.com) half and cut an arc on both sides letting A and B as center, which intersects each other at points C and D.

(3) Draw a line CD, joining the points C and D, which cut AB at point O.

∴ OA and OB are two required segments of equal lengths.

Identify and name the perpendicular lines from the figures below

Solution:

On measuring angles we find that

(i) PQ ⊥ QR

Draw a line segment AB. Taking a point R not on the line AB, draw a perpendicular to AB from R.

**Step 1 :** Point R is situated externally to line AB.

**Step 2 :** Taking a suitable radius draw on arc (RBSESolutions.com) from point R using compass. This arc intersects the line AB at points C and D.

**Step 3 :** Keeping the tip of compass on C, draw an arc at the bottom, with same radius and the tip of compass on D. Draw an arc intersecting the previous arc. Thus, point Q obtained and is joined with R. Line PR is perpendicular to AB from point R.
