Question 1

Solution:

∵ 6 + 5 = 11 ≥ 5

∴ Given sides construct a triangle.

(ii) The sum of any two sides should be greater than the third side.

∵ 2 + 3 ⊁ 5

∴ Given sides do not construct a triangle.

(iii) The sum of any two sides should be greater than the third side.

∵ 3 + 4 < 8

∴ Given sides construct a triangle.

∵ 3 + 5 > 6

In ∆ABC, ∠A = 70° and AB = AC. Find the value of B and C.

Solution:

Minimum measure of third side may be = 6 – 3 = 3

and Maximum measure may be = 6 + 3 = 9

Therefore third side will be greater than 3 or less than 9.
