RBSE Class 8 English Grammar Relative Clauses 1

  • उपर्युक्त सभी Relative Clauses को who whose/whom/which/that आदि से Subject या Object से जोड़ा गया है। अतः इन्हें Relative Pronouns कहते हैं।

Explanation ( व्याख्या )

  1. उपर्युक्त सभी वाक्यों में Relative Clause, समय (Time), स्थान (Place) व कारण (Reason) के बाद आया है तथा इनके लिए क्रमशः when, where तथा why का प्रयोग हुआ है जो Relative adverbs हैं।
  2. अत: Relative adverbs से भी Relative Clauses बनते हैं। Relative Clauses दो प्रकार के होते हैं
    • Defining Relative Clause
    • Non-Defining Relative Clause

Explanation ( व्याख्या)

  • First sentence who read the lesson एक Defining Relative Clause है क्योंकि यह, sentence के subject (कर्ता) ‘The students’ को define (परिभाषित) करता है। इस first sentence का अर्थ है कि वहाँ बहुत से विद्यार्थी (students) थे। उनमें से जिन्होंने lesson को read किया वे ही questions के answers दे पाए, शेष विद्यार्थी नहीं दे पाए। Answer देने वाले students कौन थे-जिन्होंने lesson पढ़ा। अत: यहाँ उन्हें define किया गया
  • Second sentence में, who read the lesson, Non-Defining Relative Clause है क्योंकि इसके पहले भी comma है व इसके बाद भी comma है तथा यह Sentence के subject ( के तो) ‘The students’ के बारे में additional/further (अतिरिक्त) सूचना देता है। इस वाक्य का अर्थ हैं। वहाँ जितने भी students थे उन सभी ने lesson को read किया था और questions के answers दिए थे। अतः students ने दो कार्य किए थे-read the lesson व answer the questions, अत: additional सूचना दी है।
