What is De-industrialization?
Answer:
Deindustrialisation means the process of ruining the industries. The British adopted this policy to ruin the traditional Indian industries being run by the Indian artisans and sculptor as they could not stand in the competition of the machine made goods in Britain in the 19th century with the advent of the industrial revolution.

Question 4.
What is tariff policy? How did it affect the Indian Foreign Trade?
Answer:
Tariff policy was adopted by the British empire by which heavy duty was imposed on the goods exported from India to England whereas the goods exported from England to India were totally tax free. This ruined the Indian industries because the goods from India to England became less in demand and hence less production in India. This was an intentional step of the British government to ruin the foreign trade of India. With the fall in demand, there was decline in the exports from India to England.

How European Industrial Revolution in 19th century affect the Indian Economy?
Answer:
With the introduction of machines in the 19th century Europe, the goods manufactured were better in quality and also cheaper than the hand made goods. Consequently demand for the hand made goods in India fell and there was unemployment among the artisans and those engaged in handicrafts. Thus handicrafts workers in Bengal and many other parts of India got a great set back. The historians called this process as Deindustrialisation i.e. ruin of the traditional cottage industries.

Give the reasons behind the declining importance of Masulipatnam port?
Answer:
(i) By the end of 18th century Bombay and Calcutta developed as new trade sea ports.
(ii)The old trading system of India declined.
(iii)A new colonial imperialist economic system developed.
(iv)The development of new seaports in Bombay, Madras and Calcutta were the cause of declining importance of Masulipatnam port.
