Class 7 Science Chapter 9 Extra Questions on Life Processes in Animals

Life Processes in Animals Class 7 Very Short Question Answer

Question 1.
Which complex components are contained by food?
Answer:
Carbohydrate, protein and fat.

Question 2.
Who does function of chewing food?
Answer:
Teeth

Question 3.
What is secreted in mouth?
Answer:
Saliva is secreted in mouth.

Question 4.
Which is the longest part of alimentary canal?
Answer:
Small intestine is longest part of alimentary canal.

Question 5.
By which organ bile juices are produced?
Answer:
Bile juices are produced by liver.

Question 6.
Which nutritional element is digested by saliva?
Answer:
Starch (carbohydrate) is digested by saliva.

Question 7.
Where is protein digested mainly?
Answer:
Protein is digested in stomach.

Question 8.
By which waste materials are excreted?
Answer:
Waste materials are excreted by anus.

Question 9.
What is the function of mucus in stomach?
Answer:
It protects lining of stomach from acids.

Question 10.
What is the length of whole alimentary’ canal of human?
Answer:
It is approximately 9 meters long.

Question 11.
Which digestion related process starts in mouth?
Answer:
Chewing food and digestion of starch starts in mouth.

Life Processes in Animals Class 7 Short Question Answer

Question 1.
What is small intestine? Discuss its main functions.
Answer:
Small intestine is the longest part of alimentary canal in which the nutrients of digested food are absorbed. It is 6 meters long. It digests food with the help of bile juices.

Question 2.
What is the importance of liver in digestion?
Answer:
Liver secretes bile, which is basic in nature. It neutralises the acids present in the food moving down from the stomach and breaks down fats into tiny droplets; making its digestion easier.

Question 3.
What is secreted by stomach? Write their functions.
Answer:
The stomach secretes digestive juice, acid and mucus. Digestive juice breaks down protein into simpler substances. Acid break down protein and kills harmful bacteria. The mucus protects inner lining of stomach from the acid, preventing damage.

Question 4.
Write importance of saliva.
Answer:
It breaks down food into simpler forms. Saliva moistens the food which makes it soft and easy to swallow. Saliva consist digestive juice which helps to break-down starch into sugar.

Question 5.
Describe in brief-steps of digestion of food.
Answer:
Mouth-Mixing of saliva and chewing Stomach-Digestion of protein Small intestine-Absorption of nutrients Large intestine-Absorption of water and salts, conversion of stool into a semi-solid. Anus-Egestion

Question 6.
Comment on breathing practice.
Answer:
Breathing exercises have been practiced across different cultures in India and worldwide. Pranayama is well known for improving respiratory health, mind relaxation, and concentration. Breathing practices improve lung function. Deep breathing techniques are used to promote well-being.

Question 7.
Make a labelled diagram of human digestive system.

Life Processes in Animals Class 7 Long Question Answer

Question 1.
Briefly describe digestive system of human with the help of a diagram.
Answer:
Digestive system of human use a long chain of organs in a long pipe from mouth to anus for digesting food and absorbing nutrients. In this system alimentary’ canal (mouth, teeth, food pipe, stomach, small intestine, large intestine) and accessory digestive glands (liver, pancreas and bladder) are included. This system breaks down food into easy nutrients and discard waste outside of the body.

Question 2.
Explain digestion of food in a sequence.
Answer:
Chewing of food and digestion with the help of saliva in mouth, then transport of food from food pipe to stomach after that acidic digestion of protein in stomach. In small intestine digestion of fat, protein and carbohydrate by bile juices and pancreatic juices and absorption of nutrients. In large intestine absorption of water and salt and conversion of stool into semi-solid form. Remaining part of stool comes out by anus after getting stored in rectum.

Question 3.
Describe in detail about process of digestion and absorption in small intestine.
Answer:
It is the longest part of digestive system and receives digestive juices from three sources. One the inner lining of itself and from liver and pancreas. The bile juice of liver is basic in nature winch neutralises the acid and make digestion easy. Pancreatic juice broke down fat, protein and carbohydrate. The wall of small intestine absorbed the remaining nutrients.

Absorption : Finger like projections present in small intestine increases the surface area for efficient nutrient absorption. And allow the digested nutrients to pass into the blood, which carries them to different parts of the body.

Question 4.
Explain mechanism of respiration.
Answer:
When we breath (inhale) in, our chest expands as the ribs move up and outwards. The diaphragm (a dome-shaped muscle below lungs) moves downwards during inhalation. This increases the space inside the chest and air enters the lungs. When we exhale, the ribs move down and inwards, and the diaphragm moves upwards reducing space and pushing air out of the lungs.

Question 5.
How animals are adapted for digestion of food? Explain.
Answer:
All animals cannot digest food like human, they have various structures which helps in digestion. Animals like cow and buffalo have rumination process in which food is digested slowly and in birds they have gizzard (a muscular chamber). Food is broken down by contraction and relaxation of the walls of the gizzard, often with the help of grit (small stones) that the birds swallow. So. it can be said that there are different structure and functions of alimentary canal are developed.

Question 6.
What is rumination ? Explain with examples.
Answer:
Partially chew ed food brought back to mouth for chewing it slowly. This process is known as rumination
Some vegetarian animals like-cow, buffalo etc. arc called ruminants. They partially chew the grass and swallow it and later they brought back the food into mouth and chew properly. Stomach is divided into four parts in these animals where the food digested partially. After that when food brought back in mouth digestion became easy. The thoroughly chewed food again passes down the alimentary canal for further digestion. Thus these animals convert the tough fibrous food into easy nutrients through rumination, Ex. : A cow spends about 8 hours a day just chewing the food.

Question 7.
Describe structure of respiratory system and its functions in human.
Answer:
Nostril, nasal passage, windpipe, lungs and diaphragm are included in human respiratory system. Air reaches to lungs through nasal passage to windpipe, where alveoli are present. Carbon dioxide and oxygen are exchanged here. Contraction of diaphragm allows entry of air and relaxation leads to exit of air. Respiration provides energy to body which is essential to walk, think and development

Question 8.
Explain role of saliva and pancreatic juice in digestion.
Answer:
The juice secreted by salivary glands is helpful in initial digestion of food. It moistens the food which makes the food soft and easy to swallow. It converts starch present in food into sugar (maltose), which makes food sweet. Pancreas secrets pancreatic juice in small intestine which consists enzymes which can break down protein, fat and carbohydrate. This juice is mild basic which neutralises the acid in stomach. Saliva and pancreatic juice both helps the food to convert into easier form for utilisation of body.

Question 9.
Discuss various respiratory methods in different animals.
Answer:
Animals, such as birds, elephants, lions, cows, goats, lizards and snakes breathe through their lungs. Although all these animals have lungs, the structure of lungs are quite different. Fishes have gills by which they take in oxygen dissolved in water. These are richly supplied with blood vessels. The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between blood and the gas dissolved in water take place across the gills.

Amphibians, like frogs, live both in land and water. Tadpole breathe through gills and adult frog through lungs on land. Earthworms use their moist skin for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Thus, every animal developed a specific method of respiration according to their habitat.
