When you look at the sky at night, what all do you see?
Answer:
The night sky is not only beautiful but also mysterious. It looks wonderful and attractive. The moon shines in the sky with its cool moonlight. The moon can be seen in different phases such as crescent, thin line or full moon etc. We see countless shining and bright stars in the sky.

Some stars shine more brightly and some appear faintly. The pole star appears in the north-direction used by sailors. Sometimes planets such as Jupiter or Venus also appear shining. If the sky is clear, the Milky Way can also be seen, which is group of millions of stars. Sudden flashes of meteor add the beauty in mysterious sky.

Have you ever noticed that all the stars do not have the same brightness? Some appear brighter and some appear dimmer. Why is this so?
Answer:
Yes, it is correct that all the stars do not have the same brightness. Some stars look very bright while some look faint. There are many scientific reasons behind this. Brightness of stars depends on their nature, location and distance from the Earth.
Brightness of stars depends on their size and temperature. Large and hot stars such as blue or white stars shine brighter, while smaller, cooler ones such as dwarf red appear faintly.

Stars are located at different distances from the Earth. Stars closer to the Earth look brighter, even if there actual brightness is less. The Earth’s atmosphere also affects the brightness of the stars. When stars are near the horizon, their light has to pass through thick layers of atmosphere, which makes them appear blurry or twinkling.

Apart from the above, dust, pollution or clouds can also reduce the brightness of stars. Some stars are variable, whose brightness keeps changing over time. These variations make the sky attractive.

Why does the shape of the moon change every day?
Answer:
Change in the shape of the moonThe shape of the moon changes everyday because it revolves around the Earth, it reflects sunlight at different angles. The moon does not has its own light, it absorbs sunlight. When seen from the Earth, each night, the part of the moon that is illuminated by the sunlight is visible only. This cycle changes in 29.5 days. This is known as lunar phases of the moon such as new moon, crescent moon and full moon.

What is the difference between a full moon and a new moon?
Answer:
Difference between a full moon and a new moon-These are two opposite phases of the moon. In full moon, the moon is fully illuminated because the sun, earth and moon are in a straight line. The sun’s light illuminates the entire front side of the moon.
Opposite to it in new moon we see complete dark phase of moon. The sun and moon are on one side and their illuminated part is not visible from the Earth. Thus, the moon is bright and round in full moon while it is invisible in new moon.

Discuss about Saptarishi Mandal (Big Dipper) with your teacher.
Answer:
Saptarishi-It is also known as Ursa Major or Big Dipper. It is a famous constellation in the sky. It is group of seven bright stars. In Indian astrology and Puranas it is considered as Saptarishi, which symbolizes Rishi Kashyap and his six disciples. It is easily visible in the Northern Hemisphere and helps in indicating the direction of the Pole star. It is an important and beautiful constellation in the night sky.

No, the surface of the moon is not completely smooth, there are many craters, cracks on it. These are formed due to meteorites and volcanic activities.

If today is new moon, then tommorrow the moon will appear in its first phase as a thin line or a little thin. This is also called New Moon. After new moon, every night the moon will become a little brighter.
