Write the expanded form, solve them and find the correct answers of the following :
(i) 400 × 55
(ii) 563 × 49
(iii) 720 × 23
(iv) 298 × 60
Solution :
(i) 400 × 55 = 400 × (50 + 5)
= 400 × 50 + 400 × 5
= 20000 + 2000
= 22000

(ii) 563 × 49 = (500 + 60 + 3) × (40 + 9)
= (500 + 60 + 3) × 40 + (500 + 60 + 3) × 9
= 500 × 40 + 60 × 40 + 3 × 40 + 500 × 9 + 60 × 9 + 3 × 9
= 20000 + 2400 + 120 + 4500 + 540 + 27
= 27587

(iii) 720 × 23 = (700 + 20) × (20 + 3)
= (700 + 20) × 20 + (7.00 + 20) × 3
= 700 × 20 + 20 × 20 + 700 × 3 + 20 × 3
= 14000 + 400 + 2100 + 60
= 16560

(iv) 298 × 60 = (200 + 90 + 8) × 60
= 200 × 60 + 90 × 60 + 8 × 60
= 12000 + 5400 + 480
= 17880

Fare from Jaipur to Delhi is ₹ 665 per person. If Suresh prepared tickets of 1230 passengers in a month, then how much amount of tickets did Suresh prepared.

Solution :
(i) On solving it using Mukesh’s method :

On solving it using Suresh’s method (Expanded form) :
437 × 76 = (400 + 30 + 7) × (70 + 6)
= (400 + 30 + 7) × 70 + (400 + 30 + 7) × 6
= 28000 + 2100 + 490 + 2400 + 180 + 42 = 33212
Clearly Mukesh’s method is simpler.
Note : Student’s should answer all other questions themselves.

Question 4.
While returning home from bus stand Mukesh and Suresh stopped for drinking tea. There Mukesh told that his cow gives 8 litre milk in a day then Suresh asked how much milk will the cow give in April month?
Both were engaged in calculating the amount of milk from cow for the entire month.
You help them :
April month has ________ days
Cow gives _________ litre milk in a day.
In one month, it will give _________ litre milk.
Solution :
April month has 30 days
Cow gives 8 litre milk a day.
In one month, it will give 30 × 8 = 240 litre milk.
If there are 5000 cows how much milk will be received in total?
5000 cows will give 5000 × 8 = 40000 litres milk. (which means 5 × 8 = 40, three zeros with 40)

Question 5.
Suresh drinks 10 glass of water every day then :
1. How many glasses of water will he drink in January? _________ glass
Answer:
31 × 10 = 310 glass

2. How many glasses of water will he drink in a year? _________ glass
Answer:
365 × 10 = 3650 glass

3. Estimate and find out how many glasses of water in a year? _________ glass

Solution :
Number of flower beds = 118
Number of plants in a bed = 655

Question 6.
Kavita spends 750 Rs per day for development work in a school. Then find out how much Rupees does she spend on development work entire year?
Solution :
Expenditure done by Kavita in one day =750
Days in a year = 365
Hence the expenditure incurred by Kavita on development work in one year
= ₹ 750 × 365

Hence the expenditure incurred on development work in one year =₹ 2,73,750.

Question 7.
A match box contains 127 matchsticks. How many matchsticks will be there in 2035 matchboxes.?
Solution :
Number of matchsticks in a matchbox = 127
Number of matchboxes = 2035
Total matchsticks = 127 × 2035 or 2035 × 127

So, 2035 matchboxes will contain a total of 258445 matchsticks.

Question 8.
The airfare from Udaipur to Delhi is 8350 Rs. There are 135 passengers in an aeroplane. Then how much total amount will be received from the air fare?
Solution :
Fare of one passenger = ₹ 8350
Number of passengers = 135
Total amount received from fare = ₹ 8350 × 135

Hence, a total of ₹ 11,27,250 was received from fare.

Question 9.
Price of a sewing machine is Rs. 2452. Sheela purchased such 184 sewing machine for garment industry then how much money she spent?
Solution :
Cost of sewing machine = ₹ 2452
Cost of 184 sewing machine = ₹ 2452 × 184

Hence, Sheela spent a total of ₹ 4,51,168.

Question 10.
Salary of a person is Rs. 3866 per month then what is the annual salary of the person.

Salary of a person =₹ 3866
Total salary for one year =₹ 3866 × 12

Hence, the total salary of the person in a year is ₹ 46,392.

Question 11.
A factory manufactured 5897 fans delhi then how many fans will be manufactured in 28 days?
Solution :
Number of fans manufactured per day in the factory = 5897
Total fans manufactured in 28 days
= 5897 × 28
Hence, 1,65,116 fans will be manufactured in the factory.

Cost of a meter cloth is Rs. 289 then what is the cost of 6075 meter cloth?
Solution :
Cost of one meter of cloth = ₹ 289
Hence cost of 6075 meter of cloth = 6075 × 289

Hence, the price of 6075 meters of cloth = ₹ 17,55,675.

Question 13.
In a garden there are 2745 plants of pomegranate. If 112 pomegranate are grown on a plant then how many pomegranate will be produce in the whole garden?
Solution :
Pomegranate trees in the orchard = 2745
Pomegranate on each tree = 112
The number of pomegranate obtained = 2745 × 112

Therefore a total of 3,07,440 pomegranates will be obtained from the entire garden.
