RBSE Class 9 English Grammar Modals are part of RBSE Solutions for Class 9 English. Here we have given Rajasthan Board RBSE Class 9 English Grammar Modals.

Rajasthan Board RBSE Class 9 English Grammar Modals

आइये सर्वप्रथम auxiliary या helping verbs तथा उनके प्रकारों पर विचार करें।
Auxiliary Verbs के दो भेद है

(A) Primary Auxiliaries –

  1. Verb ‘to be on forms – is, am, are, was तथा were.
  2. Verb ‘do’ as forms – do, does, did.
  3. Verb ‘have’ as forms – has, have, had.

Note – इन सभी का प्रयोग Full verbs तथा Helping verbs दोनों प्रकार से होता है। जैसे –

1. Sita is a good girl. (Full Verb)
She is reading a book. (Primary Auxiliary)

2. He has a book. (Full Verb)
He has read the book. (Primary Auxiliary)

3. He does his work honestly. (Full Verb)
He does not play football daily. (Primary Auxiliary)

(B) Modal Auxiliaries – Modal शब्द प्रवृत्ति, व्यवहार या मन:स्थिति (mood) से सम्बन्धित है। अतः वहे शब्द जो मनोभाव को व्यक्त करे Modal कहलाती है। इसी कारण से जो क्रिया किसी पूर्ण क्रिया (Full Verb) की प्रवृत्ति या मन:स्थिति प्रकट करने में सहायक बनती है, उसे Modal Auxiliary Verb कहते हैं। इनका कभी भी अकेले प्रयोग नहीं होती। ये सदैव Main verb की First form के साथ प्रयुक्त होती हैं –
Formula : Subject + Modal + Main Verb First Form (MV1) +……….
उदाहरण – He may come today with his friend. He (Subject), may (Modal), come (MV1)
Modal Auxiliaries के Negative के विभिन्न रूप – इसके निम्न दो रूप हैं –

1. Use of Can

can का अर्थ है सकना। इसका प्रयोग Present Tense में निम्न भाव प्रकट करने के लिए होता है :
(A) योग्यता, क्षमता या शक्ति प्रकट करने के लिए

  1. I can teach mathematics. (योग्यता)
  2. A blind man cannot see.
    एक अंधा आदमी नहीं देख सकता (क्षमता)

(B) अनुमति या आदेश देने या लेने का भाव प्रकट करने के लिए

  1. You can go now.
    तुम अब जा सकते हो। (आदेश देना)
  2. Can I use your pen?
    क्या मैं आपके पैन का प्रयोग कर सकता हूँ? (स्वीकृति लेना)
  3. You can’t park your car here.
    तुम अपनी कार को यहाँ खड़ी नहीं कर सकते। (आदेश देने से मना करना)

(C) सम्भावना या असम्भावना व्यक्त करने के लिए

  1. Accidents can happen everywhere. (सम्भावना)
  2. ‘The Ramayana’ can be found in the household of every Hindu. (सम्भावना)
  3. This news cannot be true. यह समाचार सत्य नहीं हो सकता। (असम्भावना)

नोट – किसी बात की सम्भावना जानने के लिए जब प्रश्न किया जाता है तो can का ही प्रयोग दिया जाता है, may का नहीं जैसे
Can this boy be a thief?

2. Use of Could

‘could का अर्थ है- ‘सका या ‘सकता था। इसका प्रयोग Past tense में can के समान योग्यता (ability), क्षमता (capacity) या शक्ति (power) प्रकट करने के लिए किया जाता है। पर could का प्रयोग Present tense में भी किया जाता है तब यह विनम्र याचना काbnभाव प्रकट करता है। इसका प्रयोग निम्न रूप में होता है। जैसे

  1. I could speak English when I was only five years old. (योग्यता)
  2. My brother could not send me money last month. (क्षमता)
  3. Umesh could go wherever he wanted. (अनुमति)
  4. I could attend the function. (सम्भावना)
  5. Could you lend me your pen? (वर्तमान में विनम्र निवेदन)
  6. She could have pased the examination. (past ability)
  7. If I reached earlier, I could catch the bus. (अपूर्ण शर्त)
  8. Can के Past tense के रूप में –

She said, “I can sing sweetly.”
She said that she could sing sweetly.

3. Use of May

इसका अर्थ भी सकना ही होता है । इसका प्रयोग present में अनुमति लेने या देने, संभावना अथवा मनोकामना प्रकट करने, आशीर्वाद देने, व्यक्तिगत शुभकामना, आशा एवं विश्वास व्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता है जैसे

  1. May I come in, sir? (अनुमति लेना)
  2. You may take my pen. (अनुमति देना)
  3. It may rain. (सम्भावना)
  4. May you live long! (शुभकामना)
  5. May he return home safe! (आशा)
  6. We eat so that we may live. (उद्देश्य)
  7. Whatever place he may go, he cannot forget her. (भले ही के अर्थ में)

4. Use of Might

यह May को past tense है और निम्न भाव प्रकट करता है।
(A) प्रश्नवाचक वाक्यों में विनम्रतापूर्वक एवं हिचकिचाहटपूर्वक अनुमति माँगने के लिए :

Might I take your pen?
क्या मैं आपके पैन को ले सकता हूँ?

(B) बीती हुई सम्भावना प्रकट करने के लिए

1. Your eldest son might have become a doctor.
तुम्हारा सबसे बड़ा लड़का डॉक्टर हो सकता था (पर हुआ नहीं)।

2. He fell from the roof and broke his leg.
He might have been killed.
वह छत से गिर गया और उसकी टाँग टूट गई।
वह मर सकता था (पर मरा नहीं)।

(C) अत्यत्न क्षीण सम्भावना प्रकट करने के लिए।

  1. Take a taxi. You might catch the train.
    टैक्सी ले लो। तुम्हें गाड़ी मिल सकती है। (जिसकी सम्भावना बहुत कम है।)
  2. The sky is clear now. It might rain tonight.
    आसमान निर्मल है। रात को वर्षा हो सकती है। (पर सम्भावना बहुत कम है)।

(D) भूतकालीन उद्देश्य प्रकट करने के लिए।

(i) He took medicine so that he might get well.
उसने दवा ली ताकि वह अच्छा हो सके।

5. Use of Should

(A) Shall के past tense के रूप में:
I said, “I shall go to Kanpur.”
I said that I should go to Kanpur.

(B) सलाह या सुझाव
We should bathe daily.
हमें प्रतिदिन स्नान करना चाहिए।

(C) कर्तव्य
We should obey our elders.
हमें अपने बड़ों की . आज्ञा माननी चाहिए।

(D) अनुमान या सम्भावना
She should reach here soon.
(ऐसी संभावना है। कि) उसे यहाँ जल्दी ही पहुँचना चाहिए।

(E) शर्त (Condition) (if के अर्थ में)।
Should it rain, we shall not go there.
यदि वर्षा हुई तो हम वहाँ नहीं जायेंगे।

(F) इरादा (Intention) (lest के बाद should का प्रयोग)।
Walk carefully, lest you should fall.
सँभलकर चलो, कहीं ऐसा न हो कि तुम गिर जाओ।

6. Use of ‘Must’ Must
का अर्थ है- ‘चाहिए। इसके प्रयोग से निम्न बातों का बोध होता है।

(A) अनिवार्यता
We must reach the school in time.
हमें (अवश्य ही) समय से विद्यालय पहुँचना चाहिए।

(B) दृढ़ संभावना
He has two flats. He must be a rich man.
उसके दो फ्लैट हैं। (निश्चित रूप से) उसे मालदार व्यक्ति होना चाहिए अर्थात वह एक मालदार व्यक्ति है।)

(C) आज्ञा व्यक्त करने के लिए।
You must stay where you are.
तुम्हें वहीं रुकना चाहिए जहाँ तुम हो। (आज्ञा)

(D) आवश्यकता व्यक्त करने के लिए।
We must work hard to pass.
परीक्षा पास करने के लिए हमें आवश्यक रूप से कठोर परिश्रम करना चाहिए।

(E) आवश्यक परामर्श के लिए।
You are getting late. You must reach the school in time
तुम्हें देर हो रही है। अतः (परामर्श है कि) तुम्हें स्कूल पहुँचना चाहिए।

(F) प्रतिबन्ध (Prohibition) के लिए must not का प्रयोग
We must not enter the temple with shoes.
हमें जूतों के साथ मन्दिर में प्रवेश नहीं करना चाहिए।
