What was Samir’s opinion about the change in his voice?
अपनी आवाज में परिवर्तन के संबंध में समीर की क्या राय थी?
Answer.
Samir thought that he might have caught cold. The harshness in his voice was similar to cold. But it was a Common cold.

समीर ने सोचा कि शायद वह ठंड की चपेट में आ गया है। आवाज़ में रूखापन ठंड के ही समान थी। लेकिन यह एक सामान्य ठंड थी।

Question 2.
How did Samir try to dispel fear?
समीर ने भय को भगाने के लिए क्या किया?
Answer.
Samir told himself that only cowards had fear. He was not a coward. But such boldness did not help him. Thus he tried dispel fear.

समीर ने अपने-आप से कहा कि केवल कायरों को ही भय होता है। वह कायर नहीं है। लेकिन उसकी निर्भीकता ने उसकी सहायता नहीं की। इस प्रकार से उसने अपने भय को भगाने की कोशिश की।

What did Samir’s mother say about his room?
समीर की माँ ने उसके कमरे के विषय में क्या कहा?
Answer.
Samir’s mother used to walk into his room without knowledge. She often surveyed his room and passed on the remark. His room was more like a pigsty.

समीर की माँ बगैर सूचना के उसके कमरे में आ जाती थीं। वे अक्सर उसके कमरे का निरीक्षण करतीं। तथा इस संबंध में कोई टिप्पणी करतीं। उसका कमरा एक सूअरबाड़े की तरह था।

दरवाजे पर समीर ने क्यों एक चेतावनी प्रदर्शित कर रखी थी?
Answer.
His mother used to enter his room without information. He did not like this habit of his mother. Actually he wanted to maintain privacy. So he put up a warning on the door.

उसकी माँ बिना कोई सूचना दिए उसके कमरे में आ जाती थीं। वह माँ की इस आदत को पसंद नहीं करता था। वस्तुतः वह अपनी निजता को बरकरार रखना चाहता था। इसीलिए उसने दरवाजे पर यह चेतावनी प्रदर्शित कर रखी थी।

How did Samir feel when he did not talk to his mother for a whole day?
जब समीर ने अपनी माँ से दिनभर बात नहीं की तो उसने कैसा अनुभव किया?
Answer.
Samir did not talk to his mother for a whole day. He felt that her mother was not pleased by his act. Then she coaxed him till he was not surrendered to her appeasement.

समीर ने अपनी माँ वे दिनभर बात नहीं की, उसने यह महसूस किया कि उसकी माँ उसके कार्य से प्रसन्न नहीं हैं। तब उसकी माँ ने उसकी तब तक खुशामद की जब तक कि उसने माँ की बात नहीं मान ली।

What was the opinion of Samir’s mother about freedom?
स्वतंत्रता के संबंध में समीर की माँ का क्या विचार था?
Answer.
Samir’s mother was a strict mother. She had a clear cut opinion of a mature child. She thought that if a child was mature enough to think what is right or wrong, he may have freedom.

समीर की माँ एक सख्त महिला थीं। एक वयस्क बच्चे के संबंध में उनके विचार बिल्कुल स्पष्ट थे। उनका विचार था कि यदि किसी बच्चे में यह निर्णय लेने की क्षमता है कि क्या सही है क्या गलत तो उसे स्वतंत्रता हो सकती है।

D. Answer the following questions in about 30 40 words each :

Question 1.
Why was Samir worried about the acne on his face?
समीर अपने चेहरे के मुँहासों से क्यों परेशान था?
Answer.
Samir thought that the acne was destroying his face. Although it was a temporary loss of his face, it was uncomfortable for a teenager. So, he often used to stand before the mirror and watch it.

समीर को लगता था कि मुँहासे उसके चेहरे को नष्ट कर रहे हैं। हालाँकि यह उसके चेहरे की अस्थायी विकृति थी। यह एक किशोर के लिए असुविधाजनक स्थिति थी। इसलिए वह अक्सर दर्पण के सामने खड़े होकर इसे देखा करता था।

Question 2.
When did Samir’s parents grunt and what did they say?
समीर के माता-पिता क्या बड़बड़ाए तथा उन्होंने क्या कहा?
Answer.
When Sami’s parents were over protective, he made fun at them. They grunted and asked him how he knew. They also said that he was not old enough to know their fear.

समीर के माता-पिता उसके प्रति अतिरिक्त सुरक्षा बरतते थे तथा वे उस पर व्यंग्य भी करते थे। वे उस पर बड़बड़ाए तथा उससे कहा कि वह क्या जानता है। उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि वह इतना बड़ा नहीं हुआ कि अपने भय को समझ सके।

Question 3.
How did Samir’s mother react when he fell and slipped?
समीर जब गिरकर फिसले गया तो उसकी माँ की क्या प्रतिक्रिया थी?
Answer.
When Samir fell and slipped, his mother was kind to him. She treated him like a child and showed all her love. She could not see him in pain. For her he was still a child.

जब समीर गिरकर फिसल गया तो उसकी माँ ने उसके प्रति दयालुता का व्यवहार किया। उसने उसके साथ बच्चों के जैसा व्यवहार किया तथा अपने संपूर्ण प्यार का प्रदर्शन किया। वह उसे पीड़ा में नहीं देख सकती थी। उसके लिए वह अभी तक एक बच्चा था।

Question 4.
Why did Samir stamp his feet?
समीर ने अपने पैर क्यों पटके?
Answer.
Samir’s mother thought that he was not old enough to take cake of himself. She was treating him like a child. When he had desire that he must be treated as a sensible child. It raised his hackles and he stamped his feet.

समीर की माँ का यह मानना था कि वह अभी इतना बड़ा नहीं हुआ कि अपनी देख-भाल कर सके। वह उससे बच्चों के जैसा व्यवहार करती थी। जब उसने यह इच्छा जताई कि उसके साथ एक संवेदनशील बच्चे जैसा व्यवहार किया जाना चाहिए तो उसके रोंगटे खड़े हो गए तथा वह अपने पैर पटकने लगा।

What do you think about freedom in teenage?
किशोरों की स्वतंत्रता के विषय में आप क्या सोचते हैं?
Answer.
In teenage a child must not be allowed to do whatever he wants. A child age is to develop values which may regulate his life. In this regard Samir’s parents are right that unless he becomes old enough to judge what is right or wrong, he must be put under perfect control.

किशोर वय में एक बच्चे को यह अनुमति नहीं दी जानी चाहिए कि वह जो चाहे करे। बच्चे की उम्र मूल्यों को विकसित करने की होती है, जो कि उसके जीवन का नियमन करती है। इस संबंध में समीर के माता-पिता सही हैं कि जब तक वह इस स्थिति को समझने में सक्षम नहीं हो जाता कि क्या सही है और क्या गलत तब तक वह नियंत्रण में ही रखा जाना चाहिए।

E. Answer the following questions in about 60 80 words each :

Question 1.
Why were Samir’s parents over protective?
समीर के माता-पिता उसको लेकर अतिरिक्त सावधानी की भावना के शिकार क्यों हैं?
Answer.
They are responsible parents. They never want their child might become a wild colt. Although Samir is trying to show that he is old enough to take care of himself, they hade desire to play their part. His parents are waiting for the proper occasion when Samir may judge the things independently. But Samir shows that now he is old enough to pass his time with his friends till nine o’clock at night. However, his mother is very anxious about his self decisions.

वे एक उत्तरदायित्वपूर्ण माता-पिता हैं। वे यह कभी नहीं चाहते कि उनका बच्चा एक उच्छृखल और अनाड़ी बच्चा बने। हालाँकि समीर यह जतलाने की कोशिश करता है कि वह बड़ा हो गया है तथा अपनी देखभाल कर सकता है। वे उसके द्वारा उन हिस्सों को प्रदर्शित करने की इच्छा रखते हैं। उसके माता-पिता उस उपयुक्त अवसर की तलाश में हैं। जबकि समीर विभिन्न चीजों को स्वतंत्रतापूर्वक समझ सकें। किंतु समीर इस बात को प्रदर्शित करता है कि वह अपने दोस्तों के साथ रात में नौ बजे तक समय व्यवतीय करने हेतु पूर्णतः सक्षम है। उसकी माँ उसके स्व-निर्णय से बहुत ही चिंतित हैं।

Question 2.
“Growing up is all about a matter of individuality.” Discuss.
किसी का बढ़ना एक वैयक्तिकता का विषय है।” चर्चा कीजिए।
Answer .
Sumir is growing up. He does not want his privacy may be disturbed by his parents. He thinks that even his mother should give information before entering his room. They must give respect to the gossamer-thin-curtain hanging on the door. The very curtain Is a mark of division between his parents and him. They must change their behavior towards him. So, Samir is of the opinion that his growing up is all about a matter of individuality.

समीर बढ़ रहा है। वह नहीं चाहता कि उसकी निजता में उसके माता-पिता की दखलंदाजी हो। वह सोचता है कि उसकी माँ को भी उसके कमरे में आने के पूर्व सूचना देनी चाहिए। उन्हें दरवाजे पर टॅगे जालीदार पतले परदे का सम्मान करना चाहिए। यह परदा उसके तथा उसके माता-पिता के बीच विभाजन का प्रतीक है। उन्हें उसके प्रति अपने व्यवहार को बदलना चाहिए। इसलिए, समीर का यह विचार था कि उसका बढ़ना केवल वैयक्तिकता से संबंध रखने वाला मामला है।

Question 3.
What made Samir sulk?
समीर नाराज क्यों हुआ?
Answer.
Samir’s mother thinks in her own way. As a result, he missed party. But it made no difference for her. As usual, she treats him like a child. He even has no desire to talk to her mother for a whole day. His mother makes him accept her discussion. He cries but it makes no difference for his mother. Patting was her final remark. Samir is bound to accept everything in silent.

समीर की माँ अपने तरीके से सोचती है। इसके परिणामस्वरूप वह पार्टी में नहीं जा पाता। लेकिन इसके कारण भी उसकी माँ के व्यवहार में कोई परिवर्तन नहीं आता है। हमेशा की तरह, वह उससे बच्चे की तरह ही व्यवहार करती है। यहाँ तक कि उसे दिन भर अपनी माँ से भी बात करने की इच्छा नहीं हुई। उसकी माँ उसे इस निर्णय के लिए मना लेती है। वह रोता है किंतु उसकी माँ पर इसका कोई असर नहीं पड़ता। समीर सभी चीजों को शांतिपूर्ण ढंग से स्वीकार करने को बाध्य है।
