Solution:

(i) If length and breadth are given in fractional numbers then the numerators are multiplied with numerators and denominators with denominators to find a fraction that is the area of a rectangle:

For example:

length = 4/5 unit and breadth = [latex]\frac { 3 }{ 7 }[/latex]unit

Then area of rectangle = length x breadth

= [latex]\frac { 4 }{ 5 }[/latex] x [latex]\frac { 3 }{ 7 }[/latex] = [latex]\frac { 4\times 3 }{ 30 }[/latex] = [latex]\frac { 5 }{ 7 }[/latex]

= [latex]\frac { 12 }{ 35 }[/latex] sq unit.
