Why are the means of trans-portation, and communication called the lifelines of a nation and its economy ?
Answer:
Radio, television, telephone, email, telegraph are the main means of communication whereas railway, airways, buses, trucks, cars are the main means of transportation. Reasons to be called lifelines :
1. To provide link :
Transportation is the lifeline of a country. This connects one part of the country with another part and helps in providing essential products to all places and people,

2. Development of economy :
These helps the industries to get raw material and its finished products are transported by railways and roadways. Agriculture also depends greatly ; on transportation.

3. National and cultural integration :
Transport network brings people of different castes, creeds, colours, religions, languages and regions near to each other.

4. Transfer of technology :
These help to transfer better technology from one country to other or from one part of the state to the other.

5. Link with the market :
Means of communication help the traders to have links with other traders and means of transport provide essential products.

6. Nervous system :
Means of commu nication act like nervous system in the human body. We can know w’hat is happening in other parts of nation and w orld only through this media.

1. In the 90’s, India’s main items of 5 export were only agricultural products but India has recorded high growth in the export of services. ! India has emerged as a software giant at, the international level. ,

2. The major items exported from India are gems and jewellery, chemicals and related , products.

3. Raw- petroleum and related products, gems, jewellery, base metals, machines, agriculture and other products are imported from abroad to India.

4. We are having increasing trade relations with USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, Russia, Europe, and oil producing countries rather than with Great Britain.
